As companies return to hybrid and in-office roles, the value of employee engagement opportunities and culture will continue to grow. For employees, an important aspect of this transition is feeling a sense of purpose and community; for many, this is found through volunteer events.
Throughout the past year I have had the opportunity to rebuild our program from the ground up. While every company’s program will be unique, here are eight essential strategies for a successful workplace transition and volunteer program:
The Key to Sustaining CSR: Engaging Employees
Employees are valuable messengers of your organization’s impact—among each other and the community. Engaging employees in your purpose can have great impacts, including increased retention. Read on for strategies to build an effective narrative with your team.
The Key to Sustaining CSR: Storytelling Strategy
Authentically communicating your organization’s impact builds connection, trust and loyalty among your employees and community. We spoke to B:CIVIC investors in marketing and communications to gather storytelling best practices that can transform your organization’s voice and expand your reach. Everyone agrees that it’s most important to:
- Tailor your message to a specific audience

Small Business Spotlight: Ship Sunshine
Anna Costello founded Ship Sunshine because she loves to celebrate life’s special moments—big and small. Anna is a giver by nature and has infused this throughout her small business. Ship Sunshine creates hand-packed gift boxes filled with products from local and women-owned companies and packaged in eco-friendly recycled materials. Ship Sunshine further supports the community by engaging customers in the #SunshineItForward campaign. Customers can directly support local nonprofits by adding a donation to their order or purchasing a product that benefits One Colorado or Ray of Hope. Ray of Hope is an important cause to Ship Sunshine and Anna, as Anna’s dad passed away from cancer in 2009.
